Software is at the core of the modern business model, making quality and performance top priorities to stay competitive. Organizations rely on continuous automation and testing (CAT) services to build business applications faster, with higher quality, and at scale to meet increasing market demands. Organizations looking to modernize testing capabilities with new technologies or fill skill gaps among internal teams seek external testing services providers for support. Selecting a partner with the right technical expertise and proven track record of successful delivery is critical to maturing continuous automation and testing capabilities.

The Forrester Continuous Automation And Testing Services Landscape, Q4 2023

Perficient was named among notable providers of continuous automation and testing (CAT) services in the Forrester report: The Continuous Automation And Testing Services Landscape, Q4 2023. The Forrester report is published as a resource for modern application development leaders to explore potential vendors and gain a better understanding of modern CAT services.

Understanding the Continuous Automation and Testing Services Industry

Forrester’s report states that, “According to Forrester’s Developer Survey, 2023, 43% of testing is still done with manual practices.” Reliance on manual testing is slowly decreasing, however, organizations face challenges upskilling testers into automation engineers.

Forrester also notes that “…testing and development are integrated and parallel,… Clients want to reduce the headache of governing projects with a multisourcing approach and would rather have the same provider for development and testing services…”

AI and GenAI are Top Disruptors

The CAT industry is facing significant disruption with the increased demand for AI. AI and GenAI infused applications and testing tools are not new, however, the recent GenAI explosion has reinvigorated interest in this technology.

Forrester states in the report, “Testing takes a village of human and nonhuman testers.” Forrester does not believe that AI will replace manual testers, but that it will bring new challenges into the development environment. “Shifting from manual testing to multivariate automation testing skills, adapting to nonhuman coworkers, and fielding testing services to both legacy and modern fluid teams, while transitioning to digital, are challenges to consider,” according to the report.
