We were presented with this client to build few complicated and lengthy reports. During writing of these reports, we noticed few scenarios that could be challenging to everyone out there who are writing reports in Smart View.

Here is a scenario that we encountered to overcome challenges of writing a good report in smart view so that your customer needs and requirements are met.

While you’re trying to use both company and intercompany in row wise intersections you will notice that smart view would sometimes throw up an error as seen below.

The reason for this is smart view is unable to identify whether that particular column is company or intercompany as both will have same name description as seen below.

In order to overcome this situation, as a best practice you can keep writing reports by choosing this method of member name display.  This way smart view is able to determine which column is using company name and which column is using intercompany name.

Once you choose this option and refresh the report, your report would look like this.

This way smart view would be able to determine, which column has company/intercompany and hence it would not give you above mentioned error message.

You can utilize this same solution whenever the members have matching names in them.
