Our office recently decided to embrace the concept of workplace wellness by organizing a yoga session for employees. It was organized on the International Yoga Day i.e. June 21, 2023. The building rooftop was transformed into a serene place with yoga mats laid out. Even with the uproar of Bangalore traffic, the atmosphere was charged with a sense of calmness and peace. Employees were dressed in comfortable clothing, and everyone gathered for the session on time.

Yoga has long been hailed as a practice that fosters physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Its emphasis on deep breathing and gentle movements can help reduce stress, increase focus, improve posture, and enhance overall fitness. When practiced regularly, yoga can promote a sense of inner peace which is much needed in a corporate environment. By incorporating yoga sessions into the workday, companies can help their employees manage stress, improve focus, productivity, and enhance overall job satisfaction. Perficient Bangalore was successful in organizing one.

We were fortunate to have skilled and experienced yoga instructors from Shri Pathanjali Yoga Shikshana Samiti Karnataka to guide us through the session. They began by explaining the principles and benefits of yoga. They emphasized that yoga is a non-competitive practice, encouraging us to focus on our own bodies and not compare ourselves to others. Their calming presence immediately put everyone at ease, dispelling any initial hesitation or self-consciousness.

The yoga session started with a challenge, where we were asked to sit down on our mats with knees and hands directed upwards. The challenge was to pull ourselves up on foot without taking support from our hands. This was a test to check our body balance and strength. By this time everyone realized how important this session is going to be. The instructor then guided us through a series of yoga postures, focusing on individual body parts, carefully explaining each movement, and encouraging us to listen to our bodies. As the session progressed with stretching exercises, participants felt the tension getting released from the body.
This session offered numerous benefits that extended beyond the physical realm. Participants reported feeling a renewed sense of energy, clarity, and focus. Many expressed a sense of relief from the pressures of work and a heightened ability to handle stress.

Conclusion:

As we rolled up our mats and returned to our desks, a sense of calm and rejuvenation lingered in the air.  The yoga session reminded us the importance of taking time for ourselves and finding balance amidst the demands of the corporate world. It was a small yet significant step towards creating a healthier, more harmonious workplace.

So, the next time employees find themselves feeling overwhelmed at work, for sure they will carve out the learnings from this session and practice yoga to relieve themselves.
