February was an exciting month for BattleBots fans as Perficient’s fighting robot Minotaur took to the ring twice and came out victorious both times. All eyes were on Minotaur and Team RioBotz as they were featured in the show-opening fight on February 2 and in the main event on February 16. The battles were hard fought, but Minotaur and Team RioBotz were at the top of their game and faced their competitors with ferocity and confidence.
Minotaur’s recent stellar performances come off the heels of a strong season opener when they managed to overthrow the previous BattleBots champion, Tantrum, in a TKO win. Daniel Freitas and the rest of Team RioBotz have been on a war path ever since their controversial loss by judges’ decision to Witch Doctor last season. This season is all about revenge for the raging bull as Minotaur fights its way back to the final BattleBots World Championship Tournament to win the Giant Nut Trophy.
Minotaur vs. Free Shipping: Return to Sender
In the epic showdown between Minotaur and Free Shipping, Minotaur survived the heat to come out on top. Minotaur’s powerful drum spinner and Daniel’s impeccable driving skills during the February 2 BattleBots episode made all the difference and led to another TKO win for Minotaur.
Minotaur played to their advantage of being smaller and lower to the ground. They were able to stay grounded and aggressive throughout the fight. Packages will be arriving late after Minotaur stripped Free Shipping of their fourth tire!
Perficient colleagues rooted on Minotaur and trash talked Free Shipping to celebrate the win:
“Free shipping = free win? Here’s to hoping Minotaur tears up Free Shipping like the delivery trucks tear up my packages.” Blake Edler, lead technical consultant
“It could change its name to ‘Drop Shipping.’” Jorge Velasquez, software developer
“Their team will need to file a shipping damage claim with half their primary weapon destroyed and a missing wheel.” Tim Hanson, solutions architect
“The shipping is free, but the package will be delayed.” Trevor VaughnHauck, technical consultant
Minotaur vs. Cobalt: No Cobalt for Minotaur, We’re Taking the Gold
Minotaur defeated Cobalt in an intense main event showdown during the February 16 episode. What began as a rough start for Minotaur quickly turned into a legendary comeback for the raging bull. Minotaur would not bow down to Cobalt and persisted through significant blows and highflying aerials in the beginning of the match.
Despite Team Cobalt specifically redesigning their bot to battle Minotaur and securing an early lead, Minotaur was right back on the attack. The competition was fierce, but Minotaur and Team RioBotz had a few tricks up their sleeves and ripped away Cobalt’s two long forks, causing the opponent to lose the upper hand. The battle went down to the wire lasting for 2:54, ending in a Minotaur TKO win!
Minotaur’s power and aggression were on full display and resulted in the ultimate turn of events. They never surrendered even when they caught on fire and it looked like they were going to lose. Minotaur displayed determination and persistence to keep their undefeated season intact!
Our colleagues experienced a rollercoaster of emotions throughout the fight, but were ultimately ecstatic to see the end result:
“Tear it up, Minotaur! Go, Perficient! I mean Minotaur! Go, all of us!” Randy Roosekrans, senior project manager
“That battle was ” Brandon Luhring, project manager
“Great match!!!! Way to go Minotaur!!!” Bill Holehouse, account developer
“Smells like victory…and maybe a little like Minotaur smoke…but mostly VICTORY!” Art Quinn, general manager
