Throughout the years, our Southern California team has made their presence known in their community. They have been know to frequently volunteer at local food banks, support Children’s Hospital Orange County, and many more. That said, their latest initiative was competing (for a good cause) in OneOC’s Community Cup.
What’s the Community Cup?
As a nonprofit organization, OnceOC provides solutions and support to help various nonprofits and companies execute for the greater good. Their mission is simple – to accelerate nonprofit success in Orange County. One way that OneOC gets local organizations involved is by hosting the annual Community Cup.
The 2022 Community Cup took place on October 22nd. This unique initiative brings together over 1,000 participants to take part in a fun, athletic event designed to help organizations increase employee engagement, promote teamwork, and support nonprofits. Participating companies form teams and compete to win a donation to their charity of choice.
While our team of 8 colleagues did not place in the top 3 finishing teams (there’s always next year), 100% of our entry fee went to a charity via OneOC. For the top 3 finishing teams, they won an additional amount allocated to a charity of their choice!

Why is this Important to Us?
As an organization that strives to support those around us, we are loyal to our communities. To understand the importance of participating in events like the Community Cup, I asked our SoCal General Manager, Henry Heisler a couple of questions:
As the SoCal GM, why do you feel it’s important for Perficient to get engaged with our local communities?
“At Perficient we encourage colleagues to engage with and support our local communities, whether through volunteering, fundraising or advocacy. Our Giving ERG is a great example of how we lift up and celebrate the good things our people do to help the less fortunate.”
What was your favorite part of participating in this event with your other SoCal colleagues?
“The event itself was a fun way to give back! The Perficient team competed against teams from other companies (including some clients!) in games such as dodgeball, tug-of-war, human foosball, relay races, cornhole, hockey shots and more. Personally, while I thought all the events were a great time, I most enjoyed the tug of war and hockey shots. Tug of war was our first event, which is an intense way to start the day. We weren’t confident we’d pull off a win and we ended up going 3-0! And having grown up playing ice hockey, I had fun with the hockey shots event, which was sponsored by the Anaheim Ducks. We even got a group photo with their actual mascot and an inflatable version that was 2 stories tall!
The entire morning was filled with friendly competition, cheering on our teammates and sharing high-fives with other squads. It was both inspiring and energizing seeing coworkers give up part of their weekend to support a community-focused charity event, racing around to compete with, cheer on and support each other. We all enjoyed the Community Cup experience and plan to be back with multiple teams in 2023!”
What’s Next?
As Henry mentioned, we plan to be back at the 2023 Community Cup for some more friendly competition. After all, it is all for a truly great cause. In the meantime, you can catch our SoCal team supporting their community in a multitude of ways and making their presence known!
At Perficient, we continually look for ways to champion and challenge our talented workforce with interesting projects for high-profile clients, encourage personal and professional growth through training and mentoring, and celebrate our people-oriented culture and the innovative ways they serve Perficient and the community.
